Big Win: The Care Pastor (CP) is responsible for central oversight of the Spiritual Care System at Liquid Church. The CP will provide support for the Discipleship Pastor (“DP”) and teams in the area of counseling and leading the spiritual support system
The Care Pastor serves under the Discipleship Pastor. A full-time position, the schedule is generally Sunday -Thursday for a total of 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
The CP will provide central support in training, maintenance, and development of the Campus Prayer Team System. The CP will onboard, train, and support the volunteer staff Prayer Team Coordinator at each campus to fully implement the prayer team system at the Campuses. The CP assists in implementing the approach established by the DP that encourages campus teams to establish relationships with the community and support the leaders of the Prayer teams. In partnership with the DP & the Lead Pastor (“LP”) the CP will be responsible for developing and growing the prayer culture of the church.
The CP should be available to support and prepare campus teams of any special call-outs or support required weekly as the Lead Pastor or Teaching Pastor plans special elements for Sunday morning, e.g., healing prayer, anointing with oil, communion, etc.
The CP will provide oversight and coordination of the Baptism system and the services across the campuses.
The CP will provide central oversight and support to CPs and APs as they provide weddings and funeral services for congregants.
The CP will support the Discipleship Team as Liquid continues to develop a New Believer strategy across all campuses, particularly with the launch of Alpha. This includes developing and maintaining Alpha groups, recruiting and training leaders, caring for the leaders and members of these groups, organizing meetings and coordinating with Discipleship Pastor and supporting the planning and execution of the Holy Spirit Weekend. The CP will assist in providing ongoing training of support groups and classes. Alpha will be held three times a year after baptism and evaluated throughout strategically to determine viability and length of continuance.
This CP will assist in training to help campus pastors and their teams handle requests for counseling. This role will handle some individual sessions but is primarily assessing and determining needs and recommending appropriate referrals. The CP will maintain established relationships with private clinicians. The CP will meet with and recommend appropriate counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists in the area that can handle the referral of individuals whose situations require more care than can be provided by the Liquid team. The CP will assist in the development of a system for handling crisis situations.
The CP will update the database of social service providers available to the Liquid Community when needed. Services will be researched, if and when possible, make visits to facilities to enrich the information provided during referral.
The CP will provide central support to the AP system at Liquid. The CP will provide regular training and tools to the Campus APs so that they are able to support the CPs as they provide spiritual care at the Campuses.
Commitments and Status: All staff are to be actively involved in the ministry of Liquid. We anticipate that staff will lead in these areas by example. Each new employee is hired as an “Introductory Employee” at Liquid for a period of 3 months. During the Introductory Period, you will have the opportunity to learn your new position and see whether you enjoy your employment at Liquid. The Church will use this period to evaluate your performance and determine whether you are able to meet the job requirements and its expectations. This is primarily a Sunday to Thursday position.
Leadership Development
Liquid Church uses the Hero Maker philosophy. We hope and pray that for each of the areas the Care Pastor is responsible for, the CP will own the responsibility to be a Hero Maker (i.e. how to make others the hero in God’s unfolding story). As such, it is expected that the CP will develop volunteer leaders in each responsible area. By the end of year one, it is expected that at least 2 additional volunteer staff will be added to assist in specific areas.
Remember, to Be a Hero Maker, one must identify one or two items to give up each year, hand-off to volunteer, and one or two items to take on in an expanded role.
