Job Title: Youth Pastor

Position Summary
The Youth Pastor is responsible for shepherding young people into a genuine and faithful relationship with God. Coming alongside students so they may discover their God-given identity, purpose, and potential, this role is accomplished by partnering with the Pastor to Families and the broader church community to create systems, organizational structures, and relationships that foster the discipleship of young people and their families. This ministry flows out of a personal devotion to the ways and person of Jesus.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Student Engagement
- Provide pastoral support for Youth (6th–12th grade), including:
- Approximately 5 contacts per week with students (1–2 face-to-face)
- Regular rhythms of attending local Middle and High School events, particularly supporting Cedar Mill Youth in their extracurricular activities
- Offering discipleship opportunities outside of weekly Youth gatherings
- Meet students on their turf:
- Most weeks, meet with students on campus, creatively seeking opportunities to volunteer or visit local campuses
- Seek partnerships with schools and other Youth ministries to serve students at local Middle and High Schools
Leadership Development
Youth Team
- Recruit and train adult volunteers to mentor and disciple young people
- Offer pastoral support in the challenges of working with Youth
- Meet with team quarterly to provide training, prayer, and vision
Student Leadership Team
- Recruit and train students to evangelize and start on-campus clubs and movements (e.g., Fellowship of Christian Athletes, lunchtime Bible studies)
- Meet with student leaders weekly for training, prayer, and vision casting
Gatherings
Wednesday Night Youth (6th–12th Grades)
- Creatively engage students at their stage with discipleship that aligns with Cedar Mill’s key strategies: intimacy with God, intentional community, and purposeful mission
- Develop a Youth and Student Leadership Team that partners with the Youth Pastor to provide hospitality and spiritual support for the evening
- Develop a scope and sequence of Biblical teaching in collaboration with the Pastor to Families
Camps and Trips
Year A
- Fall: Fall Retreat
- Spring Break: Global Mission Trip
- Summer: Christ In Youth (CIY) Conference
Year B
- Fall: Fall Retreat
- Spring Break: Discipleship-Oriented Trip
- Summer: City Camp (Local Mission Trip)
Special Events
- Unite — city-wide Youth worship and prayer nights
- Outreach events, such as post-game parties, dodgeball tournaments, and similar activities
Work Hours & Conditions
- Regular evening and weekend work required
- Role involves regular engagement with students in a variety of environments and circumstances
Qualifications
- Affirms the church’s Statement of Faith and lives in alignment with its values
- Bachelor’s degree required; seminary degree or additional biblical training preferred
- Previous ministry experience
- Ability to preach and teach Scripture effectively
- Ability to offer Biblical counsel
- Skilled in conflict management
- Ability to recruit, lead, and develop teams
- Strong moral character and personal integrity
- Personal devotion to the ways and person of Jesus Christ

The Youth Pastor is a mature and growing follower of Jesus Christ whose love for young people flows out of a deep personal devotion to God. We are looking for someone of evident humility, wisdom, and strong moral character who demonstrates a shepherd’s heart in walking alongside students and families, models authentic faith in both their ministry and personal life, and is deeply committed to seeing the next generation discover who they are in Christ and step into their God-given purpose.
