Job Summary:
This position serves as the director of all children's ministry programming — overseeing staff, volunteers, curriculum, and culture — with the primary goal of creating an environment where children encounter the love of God, grow in their faith, and are equipped to follow Jesus. This is a leadership position that requires a strong shepherd's heart, excellent organizational skills, and a genuine love for both children and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide visionary leadership and direction for all aspects of the children's ministry
• Recruit, hire, train, develop, and oversee children's ministry staff and volunteer teams
• Cast and communicate a clear vision for children's ministry that aligns with the mission and values of Calvary Chapel
• Build and maintain a healthy, unified, and Christ-centered ministry culture
• Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for children's ministry within the broader church staff
• Oversee the planning, organization, and execution of all weekly children's ministry programming for infants through sixth grade
• Lead the selection, development, and implementation of age-appropriate, biblically sound curriculum
• Ensure all programming is consistently excellent, engaging, and spiritually intentional
• Oversee the coordination of special events, ministry celebrations, baptisms, and seasonal programming
• Develop and maintain systems and structures that allow the ministry to run efficiently
• Provide pastoral care, counsel, and support to children and their families navigating life's challenges
• Partner with parents and guardians to disciple children in the home — equipping families to make faith central to everyday life
• Connect families with appropriate pastoral or professional resources when needs exceed the scope of children's ministry
• Develop intentional touchpoints that strengthen the relationship between the church and the families it serves
• Ensure all children's ministry environments meet or exceed safety, security, and child protection standards
• Maintain strict compliance with Calvary Chapel's child safety policies and procedures
• Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills — addressing challenges proactively, calmly, and effectively
• Maintain a fully staffed volunteer schedule at all times — ensuring every room remains open, every child is served, and no ministry opportunity is lost due to inadequate volunteer coverage
• Manage the children's ministry budget with integrity and good stewardship
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, volunteer hours, and ministry data
• Communicate regularly and clearly with church leadership, staff, and families
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor (Colossians 3:23)
Job Skills and Competencies:
• Minimum of two to three years of pastoral and leadership experience
• Bachelor's degree in Ministry, preferred Christian Leadership
• Experience leading and developing a team of staff and volunteers
• Experience providing pastoral care or counseling to families and children
• Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional problem-solving ability — able to think clearly and act decisively under pressure
• Ability to build genuine relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and staff
• Proficiency with basic ministry technology and church management systems
Other Qualifications:
• Calvary Chapel must be your home church with regular attendance

• Function as a productive part of the church staff and attend staff meetings in coordination with direct supervisor
