JOB SUMMARY
The Foster & Adoption Ministry Specialist leads an effective, engaging, measurable, and high impact team of volunteers that supports foster and adoptive families so that they can win at home. The Foster & Adoption Ministry Specialist also oversees the Resource Center, serving families and organizations that are impacted by the foster care crisis.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES/PRIMARY JOB PRODUCTS
- Lead & Develop Volunteer Teams
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop Foster & Adoption Ministry volunteers for Care Communities, Resource Center, and Handyman Team.
- Provide ongoing training, leadership development, and care for team members.
- Oversee celebration initiatives to ensure volunteer retention and morale.
- Maintain background checks for all volunteers to ensure compliance and safety.
- Responsibility for multiplying leaders within the Foster & Adoption Ministry.
- Implement Traders Point’s Serve Culture model.
- Oversee Care Communities & Family Support
- Ensure Care Communities effectively support foster & adoptive families by working hand in hand with families, coaches, team leaders, and care community volunteers.
- Launch and maintain new care communities, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
- Regularly assess the needs of families in care communities, ensuring they receive appropriate support, care, and resourcing.
- Manage the Foster & Adoption Ministry Resource Center
- Provide leadership over the Resource Center, ensuring that families are resourced quickly and followed up with well.
- Oversee the Foster & Adoption Ministry inventory system.
- Oversee the ordering of Resource Center supplies.
- Facilitate Resource Center pick-ups or deliveries.
- Maintain the Amazon Wish List as needed.
- Church Engagement
- Recruit and mobilize staff, residents, and volunteers to serve effectively in our Foster & Adoption Ministry.
- Help facilitate Rooted Serve, Life in Limbo, and Journey Bag Packing events as ways to engage our church in serving with Foster & Adoption Ministry.
- Assist with foster & adoption courses, monthly support groups, monthly “Join us at The Park” events, and trauma competent care trainings as needed.
- Communications & Awareness
- Maintain and manage the Foster & Adoption Ministry’s social media presence, creating engaging content and responding to interactions.
- Communicate ministry updates, volunteer opportunities, and impact stories to the Outreach team, increasing awareness and engagement.
- Other
- Ensure the Foster & Adoption Ministry budget is stewarded wisely and distributed efficiently.
- Work closely with the Foster & Adoption Ministry Director and Lead Outreach Pastor to align strategies with TPCC’s mission and vision while effectively serving vulnerable children and families.
- Coordinate the use of Traders Point campuses and The Park for foster agency trainings, support groups, events, etc.
- Contribute to the overall Outreach strategy in collaboration with the Lead Outreach Pastor.
- Support church-wide outreach events or additional projects as directed by the Lead Outreach Pastor.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Report to the Lead Outreach Pastor
- Work closely with the Foster & Adoption Ministry Director
- Work closely with the Outreach team
- Serve as liaison with external partners
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Demonstrates knowledge of the needs of vulnerable children in both understanding and application
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong delegation skills
- Attention to detail and follow through
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Demonstrates knowledge of the foster care system and adoption process, including trends, issues, and resources available
- Ability to train & equip people towards a common vision
- Familiarity with computer databases and software
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred
- Experience leading volunteer teams and developing volunteer leaders, preferred
- Trained in trauma competent care & TBRI, preferred
