JOB SUMMARY
The Youth Pastor / Director provides overall leadership and direction for Traders Point Youth at their campus. Because of the broad base of families and volunteer leaders involved in youth ministry, this team member provides influence to the overall campus experience. By leading well, casting vision, willingness to be a part of the bigger picture of Traders Point Youth, and maintaining a healthy culture in their sphere of influence, the ministry should contribute to the overall attendance growth, engagement growth through serving, a stronger invite culture, and next steps taken by those who are a part of it – adults and youth alike.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
- This position will oversee all volunteer group leaders, experience team members, and youth team members at the campus.
- This position will oversee any ministry partners who join the campus team and has an opportunity to mentor a leadership resident if desired.
DUTIES/PRIMARY JOB PRODUCTS
- Build an inspired team:
- Identify and inspire adults to take next steps by serving in Traders Point Youth
- Ensure that team members and leaders are well-placed based on their gifts, passions, and skills.
- Provide training and ongoing development by utilizing the many resources TPCC has to offer.
- Create a relational atmosphere among the leader team to make sure they feel needed and known.
- Create an excellent Traders Point Youth Midweek experience:
- Work with appropriate staff members and leaders weekly to create an excellent, fun, and meaningful service that utilizes music (TBD), games, competitions, the message, and great environments for small groups.
- Provide energetic yet appropriate direction and leadership from the stage to transition through each element of the Midweek experience.
- Follow up with students, leaders, parents, and students who attend for the first time, made a decision, or show an interest in serving.
- Youth Pastors will facilitate and lead four open doors a student can walk through and where leaders can serve:
- MIDWEEK: Through Wednesday night experiences,we invite students to hang out with friends, hear a relevant message, and participate in a small group. In small groups, students can ask real questions, learn from God’s word, and encourage each other.
- YOUTH SERVE: Whether greeting or serving coffee in Guest Experience, starting a recycling campaign at their school, or any other service, we want to help youth discover their Kingdom purpose. By offering opportunities and clear paths to serve in our church and communities, we help them find how they can make a difference.
- YOUTH NIGHT: We host Youth Night several times a year, and it’s an amazing opportunity for students to invite their friends, worship God, have a lot of fun, and hear an inspiring message that will activate their faith. Youth Night is a centrally executed event that campus staff contribute to: programming, experience, and bringing and inviting students from their campus.
- SUMMER CAMP: Summer camps are a chance for teens to encounter Jesus, build lasting friendships, and discover how they can make a difference in the world. We partner with Christ in Youth to execute middle and high school camps.
- Provide leadership to the overall campus team:
- Engage with families and students in the lobby to share about Traders Point Youth, opportunities to serve on the weekend, and recruit adult leaders to serve in Midweek.
- The Youth Pastor will occasionally be called on to host from the stage on the weekend. This might include casting vision around any number of Traders Point initiatives or events.
- May take a leadership role in planning and executing campus-wide events and experiences which requires coordinating multiple teams of staff and team members outside of TPY.
- Provide pastoral leadership and care to campus.
- Provide support and leadership to Traders Point Youth globally:
- Create and contribute to the content and programming teams, based on skill and interest (leadership development, groups, Midweek scripts, youth night programming, social media)
- Contribute to planning and execution of global TPY events (Youth Night, Summer Camp)
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
- This position reports directly to: Campus Pastor
- This position has dotted-line influence from: Lead Youth Pastor
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong, collaborative team-building, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and interact with people from different backgrounds, ages, languages, and cultures
- Ability to develop adults and youth through coaching
- Ability to multitask and manage time well while staying focused on people
- Experience and demonstrated understanding of youth culture
- Ability to train and equip people towards a common vision
- Excellent and inspiring verbal and written communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of office equipment and software
- Solid understanding of the Bible
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Conduct pastoral visits to hospitalized guests and perform requested pastoral services such as baptisms, weddings, funerals, and counseling.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required, field of study in youth ministry, education, child development, or social work preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in youth ministry, leading volunteer teams, and youth programming preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS
- Weekly set-up and tear down of youth environments at the campus
- Outdoor events in the summertime
- Summer camps (middle school and high school)
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
