About Greater IMPACT Church
Greater IMPACT Church is a Christ-centered ministry passionate about leading people into a deep, life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Operating with a thriving digital community alongside expanding local initiatives in Greater Reading, PA, our mission is to move people from spiritual seekers to passionate, mature disciples of Christ. We are seeking a spiritually mature, teacher-hearted leader to serve as our Discipleship Pastor, overseeing our discipleship pathways and small group ministries.
Role Overview
The Discipleship Pastor provides spiritual vision, theological oversight, and operational leadership for all discipleship environments at Greater IMPACT Church. This leader is responsible for building and sustaining an intentional, biblical discipleship engine—primarily centering on Anchor Groups (foundational spiritual growth classes) and IMPACT Groups (ongoing relational small groups).
Reporting directly to the Lead Pastor, you will develop biblically sound curricula, recruit and mentor small group facilitators, track spiritual health across our community, and ensure that every member of Greater IMPACT Church has a clear, accessible pathway to grow in their faith, study God's Word, and build authentic Christian community.
Scope of Service & Key Responsibilities
1. Discipleship Pathway & Curriculum Architecture
Spiritual Formation Framework: Design and maintain a progressive discipleship pathway that guides believers from salvation and baptism into mature spiritual leadership, biblical literacy, and active ministry service.
Anchor Groups Oversight: Manage the syllabus, schedule, learning objectives, and teaching materials for Anchor Groups (core doctrinal foundations, spiritual disciplines, Bible study methods, and stewardship).
Curriculum Development: Author, review, and curate biblically grounded study guides, facilitator discussion questions, and participant materials aligned with our sermon series and pastoral vision.
2. Small Group (IMPACT Groups) Leadership & Equipping
Leader Recruitment & Onboarding: Partner with the Volunteer Onboarding Coordinator to identify, interview, and onboard gifted small group facilitators and co-leaders.
Facilitator Coaching & Spiritual Care: Host regular facilitator huddles and coaching sessions—praying for, encouraging, and equipping group leaders to shepherd their circles effectively and handle group dynamics with pastoral wisdom.
Group Launch & Multiplication: Coordinate seasonal group launch campaigns (Fall/Spring semesters), helping newcomers find life-giving community and guiding healthy groups to multiply.
3. Pastoral Shepherding & Community Health
Spiritual Health Tracking: Monitor small group participation, spiritual milestone completions, and leader retention—leveraging church management tools (Planning Center Groups) to ensure no attendee falls through the cracks.
Doctrinal Integrity & Care: Serve as a trusted theological resource for group leaders navigating complex biblical questions, providing direct pastoral counsel when sensitive personal issues arise within groups.
Pastoral Leadership Alignment: Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor to evaluate ministry effectiveness, share testimonies of life transformation, and align discipleship initiatives with broader church priorities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Spiritual Maturity & Pastoral Calling: A vibrant, growing personal walk with Jesus Christ, demonstrated spiritual maturity, personal prayer life, and unwavering commitment to biblical truth and Christian doctrine.
Ministry & Discipleship Experience: 3+ years of experience in church discipleship, small group leadership, adult Christian education, Bible teaching, or pastoral ministry.
Biblical Competence: Proven ability to accurately handle the Word of God, translate rich theological truths into accessible teaching, and construct practical application for everyday disciples.
Equipping & Shepherding Heart: High emotional intelligence, warm relational warmth, and a passion to invest in other leaders rather than doing all ministry solo.
Systems & Digital Comfort: Familiarity with digital group platforms (Zoom, Google Meet) and church management tools (such as Planning Center Online / PCO Groups and Google Workspace).
Legal & Confidentiality Commitments:
• Mandatory Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background screening.
• Confidentiality: Must maintain strict pastoral confidentiality regarding personal prayer requests and member counseling.
Time Commitment: Ability to commit approximately 6–10 hours per week (accommodating weekday coaching calls, curriculum prep, and group check-ins).
