General Description
The Director of Leadership Development is responsible for creating and growing the overall culture of development and sending at Southall. Working across all departments to ensure that volunteers, interns, coaches, leaders, residents and staff have clarity and alignment with our mission, vision, values and strategy.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee and care for the Leadership Development and Sending staff of Southall Church.
- Responsible for the primary oversight and growth of the Southall Church Residency Program (i.e. development of a robust curriculum and leadership development pipeline)
- Work across the organization to equip and coach those leaders overseeing residents.
- Oversee and quality control all resident syncs, meetings and resident events.
- Recruit and lead a team of resident mentors and resident host families.
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, placement, and onboarding of all residents.
- Work with all department heads to help them develop a ministry playbook for their area.
- Ensure that all staff members have a personal development plan and are provided opportunities for continued education and growth.
- Oversee and develop an internship program that helps feed ministry areas (worship, creative, production, student ministry, kids ministry, etc).
- Advise and work with HR to ensure future residency opportunities are posted on appropriate platforms, the Southall LinkedIn account, and other recruiting tools are being used as needed to attract new residents.
- Create a Leadership 101 (leading self), 201 (leading others/ management), 301 (theological development), 401 (organizational leadership) for every new staff member to go through.
- Aid the growth of existing ministries through training, collaboration, and gathering information regarding best practices in other churches.
- Promote a positive workplace culture by planning and executing weekly staff huddles, monthly all-staff meetings, a yearly staff survey, staff retreats and other special staff events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Pastor.

Skills and Experience

- Spiritual Integrity – Someone who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God building on a foundation of the Word and prayer. Someone who is pursuing God, listening to the Spirit, experiencing spiritual transformation and consistently moving toward Christ-like character.
- Leadership Intuition – Someone with strong leadership instincts when it comes to building teams, developing leaders, mental modeling, making tough calls, moving towards conflict, recognizing misalignment, creating solutions, etc. Demonstrated ability to align the church staff, programs, and budget with the mission and vision of the church.
- Proven Coaching Skills – Someone who is able to assess, mentor, lead, encourage, and develop strong leaders. Someone who is gifted at reading people and assessing their strengths and motivations. Someone who can create an environment of honesty, trust, and open dialogue.
- Excellent People Skills – Someone who is gifted at reading and relating to others. Someone with strong emotional intelligence (empathy, intuition, discernment, etc.). Someone who moves toward conflict and works toward a collective resolution. Someone who is a good listener, open and receptive to feedback, and exercises disciplined curiosity. Demonstrated ability to connect and build consensus with a diverse range of people groups.

Education
- This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Theology or another related field.
- Master’s work in Biblical studies is preferred but not required.
- This position requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in church leadership and management or in a non-profit institution.
