General Description
The Kids Volunteer Coordinator is a part-time position that is responsible for working closely with the Southall Kids Director to recruit, train, onboard, and follow up with new volunteers. This includes coordinating volunteer scheduling, appreciation, and retention strategies.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist the Kids Director with implementing volunteer recruitment strategies for programming needs.
- Create and manage the volunteer schedule for all Kids Ministry programming needs.
- Create and manage a process for volunteer callouts and placing substitutes.
- Take new volunteers through the onboarding process. This includes, background checks, child safety training, policies and procedures, shadowing, following up, and scheduling.
- Manage Planning Center for all kids ministry areas. This includes sending out monthly and weekly scheduling requests and frequently updating templates and teams.
- Oversight of the background check and child safety training systems for all Kids Ministry volunteers.
- Help with prep for Kids Team events such as Training, Promotion Sunday, Child dedications, etc.
- Invest in current and potential volunteers by connecting over coffee and providing encouragement.
- Develop relational touch points with volunteers.
- Create and execute a monthly volunteer appreciation plan.
- Assist with planning and execution of volunteer community building events.
- Check in on volunteers who are sick or dealing with difficult situations. Provide encouragement and needs for the family, if necessary.
- Send “thinking of you” cards, get well cards, or encouragement cards as needed.
- Send thank you cards to subs, as needed.
- Assist with membership and baptism conversations.
- Work closely with the Director to provide coaching, upgraded processes, and avenues for success for the volunteer team.
- Participate in the planning and execution of all Kids Ministry’s regular activities and special events.
- Contribute to a healthy culture for kids ministry volunteers and empower volunteers to grow in leadership.
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed for the Southall Kids team.

- Previous work or volunteer experience in kids ministry is preferred.
- A high degree of emotional intelligence and stability. Able to demonstrate a cheerful, diplomatic and caring attitude.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to prioritize projects and responsibilities.
- Pays close attention to detail and is deadline-oriented.
- Proficient with office machinery: computers, internet search engines, copiers, phone systems, Microsoft Office Suites. Able to become proficient quickly with additional computer programs and office machines as needed.
